Speed cuber is a sport for the mind that involves solving combination puzzles. A common example of a combination puzzle is the 3x3x3 Rubik’s Cube. The main goal of the sport is to beat your personal record by solving these puzzles in a timed event.
CFOP method
The CFOP method is one of the most popular speed cubing methods available. This method uses a Layer-by-Layer algorithm and combines steps in order to solve more of the cube at once. It is great for beginners and experienced cubers alike. It is most effective when practiced with a partner.
This method involves solving the cube layer by layer using a memorized algorithm. It is not a perfect method and requires plenty of practice to master. But it is considered the best way for serious cubers to improve their speed.
Roux method
The original Roux method for speed cubing focuses on orienting edges and centers, and inserting the F and B edges into the correct positions. While it is easy and fast, this approach is not very efficient. Instead, you should solve the cube by solving for the F and B centers and rotating the edges to the same orientation. In this way, you’ll avoid losing time resolving the last layer.
The UFUB approach solves the ULUR edges in 4B, but requires more lookahead. It is most useful when skipping the “dots” case in 4C. It requires orienting all 6 edges relative to the front and center colour. This method is inefficient, but it is more efficient in the long run. If you’re solving the same problem every time, it should take seven or eight moves instead of nine or ten.
ZZ method
The ZZ method for speed cubing was developed by Zbigniew Zborowski in order to speed up the turning speed of a cube. This method combines the layer-by-layer method with a block-building approach. The basic principle of the method is to orient all edges of the cube, and then place two opposite down-face edges with the same colored center. The method has many variants, including OCLL and PLL.
The ZZ method is not easy to learn. It can’t be solved as quickly as the Fridrich method. For example, it requires two more F2L cubies than the Fridrich method. However, it allows for more efficient block building because of the full rotation of the L and R faces. However, switching between L and R moves can feel awkward at first and may take a while to master.
QiYi MS
QiYi MS speed cubes are magnetic, 3×3 speed cubes with a crisp feel that offer a super precise experience. They are the most accurate economy cubes produced and are gaining the attention of competitive solvers. The frosted plastic transition is a nice touch as well.
The Qiyi MS 3×3 is part of the Qiyi Magnetic Series. This magnetic 3×3 speed cube features small, powerful magnets in each piece that turn the layers into the proper positions. This speed cube is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a new speed cube.
World Championships
Speed cubing is a form of puzzle solving in which competitors try to solve the Rubik’s cube in the fastest possible time. Participants are blindfolded, and they have to solve the cube with their feet or hands. Those who can solve the cube in five seconds or less are considered world champions.
Competitions are held all over the world. These tournaments are a fun way to meet fellow speed cubing enthusiasts. They are conducted year-round in different locations around the world. Players compete against each other and are scored on the average of their three attempts. The player with the shortest average time wins.
Feliks Zemdegs
Feliks Zemdegs, a 22-year-old Australian, is a world record-holder in speed cubing. He first learned how to solve the Rubik’s cube through a YouTube tutorial in 2008. Since then, he has immersed himself in speed cubing and improved his skills rapidly. In 2010, he won his first competition and broke the world record for the average number of solves in five minutes. He has since broken several other Rubik’s cube records.
In addition to holding the world record, Feliks has won countless other competitions and is now sponsored by various companies. The Australian has broken more than 100 world records and is considered to be one of the world’s best speed cubers. He also competes against other speed cubing pros in a variety of events.
